Gallywix is the newest Horde Villain

Unfortunately, I’ve once again succumbed to my favorite vice: World of Warcraft. This time, I was immediately drawn in by the vibrant, chaotic world of the Undermine—especially given my deep love for the Goblins. The dungeon is an absolute blast, and the raid looks stunning.

Fantasy cityscape with vibrant buildings, string lights, and large pipes. Characters wander bustling dirt paths under a glowing blue sky.
Arguably one of the coolest patches ever.

As always, the story leaves me disappointed. And once again, I find myself reflecting on all the mistakes Blizzard has made with their Big Bad Evil Guy (BBEG) choices.

Let’s take a trip back to Mists of Pandaria, when Garrosh Hellscream took over as Warchief in Thrall’s absence and subsequently went mad with power. At the time, it was a compelling story—one of hubris, ambition, and the corruption of a leader. But since then, Blizzard has used it as a crutch, recycling the "evil Horde leader" trope to the point of exhaustion. And in doing so, they’ve completely eroded any hope for the Horde’s redemption.

Enter Sylvanas Windrunner. A character so rich in lore, so beloved, and so terrifyingly powerful that she should have been one of the greatest forces in the franchise. But instead, Blizzard shoved her down the same villainous path as Garrosh—only this time, it didn’t even make sense.

My Queen, Sylvanas.

After Legion, where we fought tooth and nail to protect Azeroth, why would Sylvanas suddenly decide to burn everything down? This is a character who had already stared into the abyss, seen firsthand the horrors of such evil, and dedicated herself to vengeance against the very forces that tried to enslave her. More than anyone, she should have resisted the Jailer. But no—we were expected to believe that because Frostmourne "shattered part of her soul," she just . . . flipped a switch?

The writing was awful. And no amount of lore band-aids can convince me otherwise. Sylvanas should never have been the villain of Battle for Azeroth or Shadowlands.

And just when you think Blizzard might have learned their lesson, they pull the same stunt again. This time, it's Gallywix stepping up as the newest Horde villain. Now, don’t get me wrong—Gallywix is a greedy, backstabbing scumbag. If you’ve ever played a Goblin, you know that firsthand. But making him the next big bad? It’s lazy. It’s predictable. And it tells me Blizzard is either out of ideas or hoarding their "good" ones for later.

At this point, I’m exhausted. The Horde has been used as a punching bag for years—its leaders turned into raid bosses, its people endlessly villainized. Meanwhile, the Alliance remains the untouchable, self-righteous "good guys." It honestly feels like the dev team has been Team Alliance since Battle for Azeroth, and they’re not even pretending otherwise anymore.

If this trend continues, I wouldn’t be surprised if Blizzard eventually scraps the faction divide altogether, tossing all the remaining races into the Alliance. After all, what’s left of the Horde? No real leadership. No compelling narrative. No reason to fight for it.

And that’s the realest tragedy of all.

Fantasy characters in armor stand ready for battle against a stormy backdrop. A magical orb glows blue. The scene is intense and dramatic.

To all of my Horde fellows, are you just as sick of this patronizing Alliance favoritism? Let me know down below.

'Til next time, gamers.
