There I was, ready to buy Monster Hunter Wilds when I caught sight of the very concerning "Mixed" review score on Steam. Naturally, I scrolled down to the comments section to see what all the fuss was about.

Apparently, Monster Hunter Wilds is experiencing catastrophic optimization problems on PC. It's a disaster. We're talking game crashes, flickering textures, polygon characters that look like shitty AI-gen models, and issues that requires you to delete a random file in the directory. It's completely cursed for a $70 game.
But that’s just on PC—and not even all PCs! The reviews aren’t all bad, and despite my initial fears, this is nowhere near a flop. Even with these issues, the game has sold a ton of copies on PC. The review on IGN (link) is GLOWING, rating this bad boi an 8/10 on their game scale. Aside from visuals that are supposed to be gorgeous when they're working, I am most intrigued by the combat and their supposedly super-likeable characters.
I LOVE a good combat system where I feel unstoppable. Everything I'm reading and seeing says the combat is going to be great. It looks about as epic as I felt in Kingdom Hearts II swinging my keyblade around when I was ten. The weapons are larger than life and there is a NEW combat mechanic called WOUNDS. Basically, your attacks have an affect on the monsters, changing the monster models to reflect their hide being "softened" or "tempered". But don't take my word for it, there's a great video on IGN that explains it all (link).
Another thing giving me pause is the lack of a challenge throughout the entire game. Apparently it's really easy. If I'm not being challenged, I have a bad feeling I'm not going to play the game all the way through. You win some, you lose some, right?
Ultimately, the largest problem here is the optimization difficulties that so many on PC are seeing. And while it's not a problem EVERY PC user is facing, I'm buying for the Xbox just to be on the safe side. My PC could never hope to run something with this many technical problems. And while I know that this article is late, I hope I can save any other stragglers from buying without being aware.
On that note, is anyone having a smooth experience with Monster Hunter Wilds on PC? Are you going to wait to buy? Let me know down below.
Until next time, gamers!
